Delhi Court Grants Interim Bail to Sharjeel Imam in Riots Conspiracy Case
Interim Bail Granted for Family Wedding
A Delhi court has approved a 10-day interim bail for Sharjeel Imam in connection with the conspiracy case related to the Delhi riots. The additional sessions judge, Sameer Bajpai, from the Karkardooma Court, allowed Imam to attend his brother's wedding. The interim bail is effective from March 20 to March 30. Imam, a prominent student activist who played a key role in organizing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act during 2019-2020, faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code. He is accused of orchestrating a "major conspiracy" behind the communal riots that erupted in the national capital in late February 2020.

The case also involves several other accused individuals, including Tahir Hussain, Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Ishrat Jahan, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Asif Iqbal Tanha (who was granted bail in 2021), Shadab Ahmed, Tasleem Ahmed, Salim Malik, Mohammad Salim Khan, Athar Khan, Safura Zargar (who was pregnant at the time of her arrest and granted bail on humanitarian grounds), Sharjeel Imam, Faizan Khan, Devangana Kalita (who has been granted bail), and Natasha Narwal (also granted bail).
