The incident took place in the Rani Bagh area of Delhi. Here, a married couple, Rahul, also known as 'Mota', and his wife, were resorting to shortcuts to earn money. Rahul would ride a two-wheeler with his wife and together they would snatch chains from unsuspecting victims. The motorcycle they used was also stolen, and after committing the theft, they would abandon the bike.

Complaint Filed by Victim
A woman lodged a complaint at the Rani Bagh police station, stating that a couple on a motorcycle had snatched her gold chain. The victim was on her way to an aerobics center near Rishi Nagar when the thieves approached her on a scooter. The female suspect, dressed in a pink suit, pulled the chain from her neck while her partner quickly sped away on the bike. A case was registered against the accused at the Rani Bagh police station.

Investigation and CCTV Footage
Following the complaint, the police team investigated the crime scene and reviewed footage from over 300 CCTV cameras in the vicinity. They identified a scooter that matched the description provided by the victim. Upon tracing the scooter's registration number, it was discovered that it had been stolen from Nihal Vihar on the same day, and a theft case had been filed.

Previous Criminal Records
The police began monitoring the suspects' activities through CCTV footage. They eventually tracked them down to Nangloi, where a local informant recognized them. He revealed that Rahul, also known as 'Mota', was committing thefts with his wife. According to the DCP, the couple hid in Uttam Nagar's Hastasal upon realizing the police were closing in. However, the police managed to apprehend them, recovering a stolen scooter used for the theft and a gold chain weighing 20 grams. During interrogation, Rahul admitted to being involved in ten theft cases, while his wife already had five cases registered against her.
