Delhi Chief Minister Launches New Welfare Scheme for Girls on Holi
New Initiatives Announced for Women's Empowerment
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended Holi greetings to the residents of the national capital while unveiling a new welfare initiative called the 'Delhi Lakhpati Beti Yojana' aimed at supporting girls. Speaking to reporters, she highlighted that the Delhi government has fulfilled its promise of providing free LPG cylinders and has issued Pink Cards to women in the city. She expressed her wishes for a joyful Holi to all residents, stating, 'We have delivered on our commitment to provide free cylinders and have also issued Pink Cards to the sisters of Delhi, enabling them to travel on DTC buses.'
The newly launched 'Delhi Lakhpati Beti Yojana' is designed to assist girls from birth until they graduate. Under this scheme, the government will deposit ₹61,000 into the account of each girl upon graduation, with a total of approximately ₹1.25 lakh available upon maturity. This initiative aims to empower Delhi's daughters to become financially independent.
Focus on Education and Empowerment
The Chief Minister emphasized that the 'Lakhpati Beti Yojana' aims to provide economic security and promote higher education for girls in the capital. Earlier in the day, Gupta launched several significant women-centric initiatives during the 'Empowered Women, Prosperous Delhi' program, which included the free LPG cylinder scheme for ration card holders and the Delhi Lakhpati Beti Yojana. She stressed the importance of education, mobility, and domestic empowerment, announcing that funds for 30,000 girls under the Ladli-Ladli scheme have been distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Additional Welfare Measures Announced
At an event held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the Chief Minister also introduced a scheme to provide two free LPG cylinders annually to families holding ration cards during Holi and Diwali. In her address, she stated, 'This initiative touches upon three aspects of life - education, mobility, and domestic empowerment. I congratulate the daughters of Delhi. Upon investigation, we discovered that ₹1.75 lakh allocated for the Ladli-Ladli scheme was lying in government accounts. Therefore, in the first phase, we identified 30,000 girls and distributed ₹90 crore through DBT.'
Innovative Mobility Solutions for Women
According to officials, the four key initiatives include the 'Saheli Pink Smart Card', the free LPG cylinder scheme, the Delhi Lakhpati Beti Yojana, and 'Meri Poonji Mera Adhikar'. The Saheli Pink Smart Card will be introduced under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, allowing eligible women and transgender residents to travel for free on buses. This card will also facilitate paid travel on the metro and regional rapid transit systems (RITS) through a single touch-free smart card. The cards will be issued at around 50 DM/SDM offices and selected DTC centers, where eligibility will be verified using Aadhaar cards linked to the beneficiary's mobile number.
