Intensive Training Camp in Goa
As the Women's Premier League (WPL) approaches its fourth edition, the Delhi Capitals (DC) have kicked off their pre-season training camp in Goa. Among the first to join were seasoned all-rounder Marizanne Kapp and wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee, who recently contributed to Hobart's WBBL championship victory. Other players present include Taniyaa Bhatia, Lucy Hamilton, and Indian athletes Niki Prasad, Minnu Mani, Mamatha Madiwala, Deeya Yadav, and Nandni Sharma, as noted in a press release from the team. The training is being conducted under the guidance of Head Coach Jonathan Batty, with additional Indian national team members expected to arrive following the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series on Tuesday.
Insights from the Head Coach
Head Coach Jonathan Batty shared his thoughts on the pre-season camp, stating, "It's fantastic to have the squad assembled and to begin strategizing for the upcoming season. With new players joining, it will be thrilling to see how they integrate into our team philosophy. The weather in Goa is ideal for our preparations. The remaining players will arrive shortly, and we will commence full training with the entire squad before heading to Mumbai to kick off our season, taking it one match at a time toward our goals."
Franchise Goals for the Season
Sunil Gupta, the CEO of the franchise, remarked, "Players enjoy returning to the Delhi Capitals; it feels like family. The pre-season camp marks the beginning of both fun and serious training. It provides a valuable chance for players to connect, especially with newcomers in the team, and Goa is an excellent setting to establish our foundation. Our consistent performance in recent seasons has led us to three consecutive finals, and we aim to maintain that momentum this year. We warmly welcome our new team members and are eager to have the full squad together for comprehensive preparations."
WPL 2026 Season Kickoff
The Delhi Capitals, who have reached the finals three times, will commence their WPL 2026 journey against the Mumbai Indians on January 10 in Navi Mumbai.
