Delhi Capitals Celebrate Win but Captain Axar Patel Faces Heavy Fine
Delhi Capitals' Mixed Emotions After Victory
Following an exhilarating victory against Punjab Kings, the atmosphere in the Delhi Capitals camp is jubilant. However, captain Axar Patel has received disappointing news. Due to slow over-rate, the IPL administration has imposed a hefty fine on him. During the match held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala on Monday, the Delhi Capitals failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time.
Axar Patel has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the Indian Premier League match against Punjab Kings. With contributions from Axar and David Miller's half-centuries, Delhi Capitals managed to secure a three-wicket victory, keeping their slim hopes of reaching the playoffs alive.
According to an IPL statement, 'Axar Patel, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala.'
The statement further elaborated, 'This was the first offense of the team this season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct regarding slow over-rate, hence the fine of ₹12 lakh on Axar Patel.' Currently, the Delhi team is positioned seventh in the points table, with their next match scheduled against Rajasthan Royals in New Delhi on Sunday.
Upcoming Challenge: Rajasthan Royals
For Delhi Capitals, every match now represents a 'do or die' situation. Their next encounter is set for Sunday against Rajasthan Royals at their home ground in New Delhi. The team must not only secure a victory but also avoid technical errors like slow over-rate to prevent any future sanctions on the captain and players.
