Delhi Cabinet Approves Bill to Decriminalize Minor Offenses
Cabinet Decision on Minor Offenses
The Delhi Cabinet has approved the Delhi Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at reclassifying various minor offenses by removing them from the criminal category and converting them into civil penalties.
This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Gupta emphasized that the bill will facilitate the decriminalization of minor offenses, thereby simplifying business operations and daily life.
She also noted that this move would alleviate the burden on the courts. Gupta mentioned that the bill is set to be passed during the upcoming winter session of the Delhi Assembly, which begins on January 5.
