Forensic Investigation Ordered in Delhi Assembly

On Thursday, the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly initiated a forensic investigation into a video that allegedly depicts Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Atishi making derogatory remarks about Guru Tegh Bahadur. This decision follows accusations from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the Opposition leader made inappropriate comments regarding the Sikh spiritual figure during a recent assembly session.

The controversy erupted after a special discussion was held on the upcoming 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, where BJP members claimed Atishi's remarks were offensive. They shared a video purportedly containing her comments, which sparked outrage.

In response, Atishi denied the allegations, asserting that her comments were directed at the BJP's avoidance of discussions on critical issues like air pollution and their protests concerning stray dogs. She accused the BJP of manipulating the video by adding misleading subtitles that included Guru Tegh Bahadur's name.

The accusations have led to significant disruptions during the Winter Session of the Assembly, with both parties trading insults over the issue. On the fourth day of the session, BJP MLAs protested vocally, demanding action against Atishi and calling for her membership to be revoked.

Speaker Vijender Gupta was compelled to adjourn the House for 30 minutes due to the uproar. Upon resuming, he confirmed that the video would undergo forensic analysis, with a report expected within 15 days, as both parties had requested this examination. Nevertheless, protests from BJP MLAs persisted, leading to another adjournment until 1 PM.
