Delhi Assembly in Turmoil: BJP Demands Apology from AAP Over Stray Dog Counting Claims
Chaos in the Delhi Assembly
New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly faced significant disruptions on the second day of its Winter Session, as BJP MLAs called for an apology from AAP members for allegedly spreading falsehoods regarding government school teachers being instructed to count stray dogs.
Speaker Vijender Gupta struggled to maintain order amidst the uproar, leading to a 30-minute adjournment shortly after the session commenced at 11 am.
Upon reconvening, BJP legislators continued to chant slogans against AAP leaders, including national convener Arvind Kejriwal, demanding an apology.
Despite Gupta's efforts to restore order, opposition members also voiced their protests, prompting another adjournment until 1 pm.
Earlier, Education Minister Ashish Sood had sent a letter to Kejriwal, accusing him of making 'incorrect and misleading statements' regarding the alleged deployment of teachers for counting stray dogs.
Sood emphasized that the government’s circular on this issue is publicly accessible and called for a public apology from Kejriwal.
After the lunch break, Speaker Gupta referred the issue raised by BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar to the education standing committee for investigation.
Throughout the day, both BJP and AAP legislators engaged in protests and slogan chanting outside the assembly.
Additionally, the Delhi Police have filed an FIR based on a complaint from the Directorate of Education, alleging that certain social media users disseminated 'false and misleading claims' about teachers being tasked with counting stray dogs.
