Delhi Assembly Erupts in Chaos Over Controversial Video Allegations

The Delhi Assembly was thrown into disarray as AAP members protested against BJP leader Kapil Mishra, demanding his resignation over allegations of circulating misleading videos involving opposition leader Atishi. The assembly's proceedings were temporarily halted amid the uproar. AAP's Mukesh Ahlawat raised concerns about the authenticity of the video shared by Mishra, questioning its source. The party is also calling for the release of full assembly footage and the suspension of those involved in spreading the doctored video. This incident follows previous tensions where Mishra demanded an apology from Atishi for alleged insensitive remarks about Sikh Guru 'Guru Tegh Bahadur.'

Disruption in Delhi Assembly

On Thursday, the Delhi Assembly witnessed significant turmoil as members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest within the chamber. They demanded the resignation of BJP leader Kapil Mishra over allegations related to the dissemination of misleading videos involving opposition leader Atishi. Amidst the uproar, the assembly proceedings were suspended for 30 minutes. The winter session of the Delhi Assembly commenced on January 5 (Monday) and is scheduled to continue until January 8.

Formal Complaint Filed

AAP legislator and deputy leader of the opposition, Mukesh Ahlawat, submitted a letter to Speaker Vijender Gupta addressing the accusations against Atishi and the circulation of the related video. In his correspondence, Ahlawat stated, "The video tweeted by Kapil Mishra is not part of the official assembly records, raising questions about how he obtained this footage. The footage clearly shows opposition leader Atishi stating, 'So please discuss. Why have you been running away since morning? You are saying, 'Respect the dogs, respect the dogs.' Honorable Speaker, please allow a discussion on this matter."

Call for Transparency

The AAP legislative group has demanded that the complete footage from the assembly cameras be made available, clearly showing and recording Atishi's statements. Furthermore, they are calling for the cancellation of Kapil Mishra's membership in the Delhi Assembly for circulating the fake video. They also seek the suspension of all other legislators involved in manipulating and distributing the doctored footage for a period of six months.

Previous Controversy

Just a day prior, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra had called for a public apology from opposition leader Atishi Marlena. He accused the AAP of making "insensitive" remarks against Sikh Guru 'Guru Tegh Bahadur' during the assembly session on Tuesday. Mishra also announced plans to introduce a censure motion in the assembly against Atishi for her comments, insisting that she should apologize to the citizens of Delhi, the Sikh community, and the assembly for her "insensitive" remarks regarding 'Guru Tegh Bahadur.'
