Delhi Airport Issues Advisory Amid Heavy Rainfall Disruptions
Passenger Advisory Issued Due to Weather Conditions
Delhi: On Sunday at 06:50 am, the Delhi Airport released a passenger advisory in response to significant rainfall that occurred overnight. The advisory indicates that flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) are being affected by the adverse weather that impacted the capital. Authorities have confirmed that there are disruptions and have advised travelers to stay informed about their flight statuses.
The advisory from the airport states: “Due to last night's adverse weather, some flights have been affected. Passengers are encouraged to regularly check their flight status and stay in contact with airline personnel for updates.”
The airport has reassured that their ground teams are actively working to reduce any inconvenience.
“Our ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for passengers,” the advisory further noted.
Severe Weather Conditions in Delhi
Earlier on Saturday, the airport had issued a warning following an alert from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The advisory stated, “As per the IMD's forecast, adverse weather conditions are anticipated in Delhi around 22:30 IST. However, flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently proceeding normally.”
Delhi Experiences Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms
Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds affected the national capital and nearby areas late Sunday night. This weather event followed a red alert issued by the IMD, which warned of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h.
By Sunday morning, numerous areas experienced waterlogging. Reports indicated that vehicles were submerged on Minto Road, and severe flooding was observed at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport. Additionally, traffic congestion and slow movement of vehicles were noted at Dhaula Kuan.
