Passenger Advisory at Indira Gandhi International Airport

New Delhi: On Thursday morning, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi released a travel advisory due to heavy fog, informing passengers that Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) were in effect, although flight operations were largely unaffected.

The advisory, issued at 4:30 a.m., indicated that foggy conditions had severely limited visibility, prompting the implementation of LVP to maintain safety during aircraft operations. However, officials reassured that flights were operating normally at the time of the announcement.

The advisory shared on X stated, "Low-visibility procedures are currently active at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are normal. Passengers are encouraged to check with their airlines for the latest flight updates."

Airport officials advised travelers to stay connected with their airlines for real-time information on departures and arrivals, as weather conditions could potentially alter schedules.

As dense fog enveloped Delhi and surrounding regions, several airlines, including SpiceJet, Air India, and IndiGo, also issued travel advisories, urging passengers to verify their flight statuses before heading to the airport.

SpiceJet communicated via its official X account that all flights could be impacted due to the fog in Delhi, recommending travelers to check their flight status on the airline's website.

Air India also cautioned passengers about possible poor visibility in the coming days, which could affect operations at its main hub in Delhi and other airports in northern and eastern India.

The national carrier outlined steps to alleviate passenger inconvenience due to fog-related disruptions, including providing 24/7 assistance for alternative arrangements.

Through its 'FogCare' initiative, Air India will send alerts to passengers whose flights may be delayed, offering options to change flights without additional fees or to receive a full refund.

IndiGo also issued a notice on X regarding potential flight disruptions due to low visibility in Chandigarh, stating that some flights would be canceled for safety reasons and advising passengers to allow extra travel time.

These advisories come as Delhi faces ongoing challenges with rising pollution and persistent smog.

Thick smog continued to cover Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday morning, with air quality deteriorating further, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 356, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Among the 39 air quality monitoring stations in Delhi, four reported AQI levels in the 'severe' category, while many others were close to this range, highlighting the ongoing hazardous air conditions.

Visuals from various locations in Delhi and the NCR depicted significantly reduced visibility due to the dense smog, impacting daily activities and raising health concerns among residents.

Data from the Commission for Air Quality Management's SAMEER app indicated an AQI of 358 at 7 a.m. on Thursday.
