Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 31: A devastating explosion at a firecracker factory in Kaushambi resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left five others injured, as reported by officials.
The incident occurred near Manauri Bazar, close to the Kaushambi-Prayagraj border, where a fire ignited at the factory, leading to a series of loud detonations.
The force of the explosion was so intense that it instigated panic among residents and caused damage to several nearby homes.
District Magistrate Vipin Pal promptly arrived at the site to oversee the ongoing rescue and relief operations.
He instructed officials to accelerate the rescue efforts to locate individuals trapped beneath the rubble and ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured.
"We received reports of the explosion at approximately 10:40 a.m. Rescue operations are actively underway to locate those trapped and provide medical care," Pal stated.
He emphasized the importance of continuous search efforts, noting that anyone discovered in the debris would be swiftly transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Emergency services, including a fire brigade and multiple ambulances, were dispatched to the scene, with police and administrative teams also participating in the rescue efforts.
According to the District Magistrate, rescue operations are ongoing.
"Currently, three fatalities have been confirmed, and around five individuals are injured. The injured are receiving treatment at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj," Pal added.
"This information is preliminary regarding the casualties. A clearer picture will emerge once the rescue operations conclude. The administration will provide updates as they become available," he continued.
In the aftermath of the explosion, senior officials from both Kaushambi and Prayagraj districts arrived to assess the situation.
Initial reports suggest that the firecracker factory was situated in a residential area, and numerous individuals were inside at the time of the explosion. The series of detonations made it challenging for rescue teams to access the site initially.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the building before the firecrackers began to explode, with the sound echoing over a wide area. The explosions were powerful enough to damage nearby homes and create a thick cloud of smoke.
The blasts shattered windows in surrounding houses, and debris was scattered extensively.
Due to the ongoing explosions, police restricted access to the area.
Rescue and relief operations are still in progress, and further updates are anticipated.
