New Delhi, Nov 1: The newly appointed Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, emphasized that his primary objectives include restoring the Indian Air Force's authorized fighter squadron strength, enhancing self-reliance in platforms and weaponry, and fostering collaboration among the tri-services.

On his first day as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff, Dixit introduced his strategic focus areas encapsulated in the acronym VAYU, which stands for Vigilance and operational readiness, Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance), Yukti (tactical innovation), and Unity of effort across the tri-services.

"Our security landscape is increasingly challenging. The nature of warfare is evolving due to advancements in technologies such as drones, long-range precision munitions, space capabilities, cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, and the electromagnetic spectrum," he stated.

"The Air Force must evolve into the force that India requires for the next decade while remaining prepared to engage and succeed in combat," he added.

Dixit elaborated on the four pillars of his VAYU vision, noting that restoring the IAF's combat capabilities to the sanctioned levels is his "top priority."

"V signifies Vigilance and readiness. Every squadron, radar, air defense unit, and air warrior must be prepared to act at a moment's notice," he asserted.

Regarding Aatmanirbharta, he highlighted that utilizing Indian-made sensors, platforms, and weapons will be paramount for the force.

"We will engage using Indian solutions, ensuring we have sufficient numbers to meet operational demands. Our duty is to engage and win, but more importantly, to deter conflict through credible air power," he remarked.

"Y represents Yukti, our creativity. We will focus on innovation in doctrine, procedures, and technology, including networked, AI-driven command and control; layered counter-drone defenses; responsive maintenance; force protection; resilience; and utilizing near-space as operational domains for the Air Force," he explained.

Dixit stated that U stands for Unity of effort. "Aligned with the vision of JAI—Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation—we will strategize and operate cohesively with our Army, Navy, and national agencies. Air power is most effective when integrated from the outset," he noted.

He concluded by assuring the citizens of India, "Rest assured, your Air Force is vigilant, prepared, and steadfast."

"Our pledge is clear: to remain ready, to continue evolving, and to respond whenever the nation calls," he affirmed.
