Guwahati, July 1: The Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), GP Singh, announced that the threat of Maoist terrorism in India has been effectively managed due to new strategies implemented by the Government of India, in collaboration with the CRPF and other security agencies.
In an interview, Singh elaborated on the primary goals of the CRPF as a paramilitary organization.
Interviewer: What are the key objectives of the CRPF?
Singh: The CRPF, functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India's foremost force for counter-insurgency and maintaining internal security. Its primary objectives include assisting State and Union Territory governments in maintaining law and order. The CRPF's responsibilities encompass counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, anti-Naxal activities, law enforcement, securing vital installations, and providing VIP protection. Additionally, the CRPF undertakes special duties such as election security, overseeing the Shri Amarnathji Yatra, and safeguarding significant religious sites like Krishna Janmabhoomi, Shahi Idgah Masjid complex in Mathura, Ayodhya Temple, and Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple/Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, as well as Mata Vaishno Devi Temple. CRPF personnel are also deployed for international missions.
