New Delhi, May 25: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has recently refuted a misleading claim circulating on social media that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had expressed support for the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
PIB Fact Check labeled the viral assertion as “fake news” and advised the public to be cautious of misleading information being disseminated online.
“Fake News Alert! A Pakistani propaganda account is spreading a false claim that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has made a statement regarding India’s backing of the BLA,” PIB Fact Check announced on X.
The fact-checking body further emphasized, “This claim is entirely fabricated. The Defence Minister has not issued any such statement. Be wary of accounts that promote false narratives about the Government of India.”
PIB Fact Check also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious content related to the Central government via its official channels, including WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 and email at factcheck@pib.gov.in.
The misleading post inaccurately quoted Rajnath Singh as saying that India “fully supports the BLA and will continue to provide financial assistance and weapons to the BLA.” It further claimed that when questioned by a reporter, the Defence Minister allegedly responded, “Absolutely, I am sure.”
However, PIB clarified that no such remarks were made by the Defence Minister. The misleading content also included a link to a YouTube video from an event held in Shirdi, Maharashtra, where Rajnath Singh inaugurated a private sector Defence manufacturing facility.
During this event, the Defence Minister launched India’s first 300-km Universal Rocket Launching System, ‘Suryastra’, and underscored the significance of indigenous Defence manufacturing. He remarked that a nation capable of producing its own weaponry “writes its own destiny.”
At the inauguration, Rajnath Singh pointed out that future conflicts would increasingly rely on advanced munitions, automation, and homegrown technological capabilities rather than just the size of military forces.
He referenced the Russia-Ukraine conflict, tensions in West Asia, and India’s 'Operation Sindoor', stressing the necessity for self-reliance in Defence production for both national security and economic stability.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the government’s dedication to making India a global center for munitions and automated systems through initiatives like 'Make-in-India', Positive Indigenisation Lists, iDEX, ADITI, and the Technology Development Fund.
On May 24, the government also alerted citizens about another fraudulent online investment scheme falsely associated with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
PIB Fact Check clarified that the so-called 'Quantum AI' investment platform, which falsely claimed to offer monthly returns of Rs 3 lakh on an investment of Rs 22,000, was a scam and had no ties to the Government of India or the Finance Minister.
