Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Celebrates International Day of Yoga in Jammu and Kashmir
Celebration of Yoga Day in Udhampur
Srinagar/Jammu, June 21: On Saturday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spearheaded the observance of the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) at the Indian Army’s Northern Command headquarters located in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
During the event, Singh participated in various yoga postures and breathing techniques alongside around 2,500 soldiers, emphasizing the importance of yoga for holistic health.
In his speech, he acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role in promoting yoga on a global scale, asserting that it serves as a comprehensive approach to health and wellness.
Singh described yoga as a universal remedy for contemporary issues such as stress, anxiety, and depression, stating, “Yoga provides clarity amidst chaos. It embodies art, science, philosophy, and spirituality. Practitioners gain control over their body and mind, becoming proactive rather than reactive.”
Across Jammu and Kashmir, numerous events were held to mark IDY, with hundreds of health enthusiasts participating enthusiastically.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo led a major yoga session in Srinagar, joined by senior officials and citizens alike.
Deputy commissioners organized similar events in various districts including Ganderbal, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora, Kupwara, Kulgam, Pulwama, Anantnag, and Shopian.
In addition to government officials, many citizens participated in the celebrations, showcasing a strong community spirit.
Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) also engaged in yoga activities at their respective headquarters and camps, focusing on enhancing mental and physical well-being.
Army personnel, led by their Commanding Officers, took part in IDY celebrations at corps headquarters in Nagrota and Srinagar, as well as at divisional, brigade, battalion, and company levels throughout the Union Territory.
Individuals of all ages, from teenagers to the elderly, gathered in parks across the region, demonstrating their commitment to improving national health through yoga practices.
