New Delhi, July 16: Indian women's hockey forward Deepika has etched her name in history by becoming the inaugural Indian recipient of the esteemed Poligras Magic Skill Award. This recognition comes after hockey enthusiasts worldwide cast their votes for her remarkable solo field goal against the Netherlands during the Bhubaneswar segment of the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League season.

The 21-year-old forward gained international acclaim for her stunning run and finish in the 35th minute of the match against the top-ranked Netherlands, which concluded in a shootout after a 2-2 tie.

While India was down 0-2, Deepika skillfully maneuvered through the Dutch defense on the left side, dribbled along the baseline, lifted the ball over a defender's stick, and scored past the goalkeeper, marking India's first goal.

Expressing her joy upon receiving the award, Deepika stated, "I am incredibly honored to win this award. Scoring that goal against a formidable opponent like the Netherlands was a memorable moment for me, and this recognition is truly meaningful.
