Hooda Proposes Haryana for 2030 CWG Hosting

On Tuesday, Congress MP Deepender Hooda called on the central government to consider Haryana as a potential host or co-host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. He highlighted the state's impressive track record in sports, asserting that Haryana's athletes deserve this opportunity. Hooda expressed his belief that investments in sports infrastructure for the Games should primarily benefit Haryana, and he is optimistic that India will excel at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

"We are pleased that India has the chance to host the Commonwealth Games. I urge the government to select Haryana as the venue for these games. Over the past 15 to 20 years, Haryana has contributed more than 50% of India's medals in major competitions. If substantial funds are allocated for developing sports infrastructure, it should be directed towards Haryana, as its athletes have consistently proven their capabilities," he stated.

Call for Equal Treatment Among States

Hooda further emphasized that the central government should adhere to 'Raj Dharma', which promotes equality among all states. He criticized the current focus on Gujarat for major projects and facilities, suggesting that it undermines the principle of equal treatment. "India should aim to be the leading nation in the Commonwealth Games 2030. For the sake of national interest, Haryana should be considered as a host or at least a co-host. The government must recognize that every state is equal and should act accordingly," he concluded.

Ahmedabad Confirmed as Host City

India secured fourth place in the medal standings at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, achieving a total of 39 medals, which included 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze. In November of the previous year, Ahmedabad was officially designated as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
