Debunking Fake Claims: AI-Generated Video Misattributed to CDS General N.S. Raja Subramani

The PIB Fact Check has issued a warning about a misleading AI-generated video falsely attributed to Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani. The video claims that 30,000 Army personnel resigned due to protests at Jantar Mantar, which has been debunked as fake. The original video, unrelated to the protests, features the CDS inviting people to the IndianOil Durand Cup. New Delhi, July 25: On Saturday, the PIB Fact Check issued a warning regarding a misleading AI-generated video that has been falsely linked to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani. The video claims that 30,000 Army personnel have resigned due to protests at Jantar Mantar.

According to PIB Fact Check's post on social media platform 'X', they stated, "Pakistani propaganda accounts are disseminating a video featuring CDS General N.S. Raja Subramani, alleging that 30,000 Army jawans have resigned over protests at Jantar Mantar. #PIBFactCheck. This video is fabricated and AI-generated. The Chief of Defence Staff has not made any such remarks."

They urged the public to be cautious about the misinformation that is prevalent online.

"Stay alert against manipulated content online and depend solely on trustworthy official sources for verified information. Report any suspicious content related to the Government of India to PIBFactCheck at +91 8799711259 and factcheck@pib.gov.in," PIB Fact Check further advised.

The digitally altered video inaccurately depicts General Subramani stating, "The government must show leniency towards the students. Over 30,000 Indian Army personnel have resigned, claiming their children were assaulted at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They refuse to serve the Indian government. This is turning into a disaster, and I urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ask the Education Minister to resign. Otherwise, our armed forces will be fractured."

However, PIB Fact Check also released the original video, which has no connection to the protests. In the genuine clip, the CDS is seen inviting attendees to the IndianOil Durand Cup, stating, "Dear friends, as we kick off the IndianOil Durand Cup, it is my great honor to invite you to the oldest football tournament."

He added, "Asia's esteemed competition will be co-hosted in five vibrant cities: Kolkata, Imphal, Shillong, Guwahati, and, for the first time, Ranchi from July 25 to August 23."

CDS Subramani also highlighted that the legacy of the Durand Cup was reaffirmed earlier this month when President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the tournament trophy.
