Dalhousie Receives Water Supply from New ₹65 Crore Scheme as Testing Begins

Dalhousie has initiated a new drinking water scheme costing ₹65 crore, with water now reaching the Ahla tank. The testing phase is underway, expected to last two to three months, during which the water supply schedule will be finalized. This project significantly boosts the town's water storage capacity from 25 lakh litres to nearly 70 lakh litres, addressing long-standing water scarcity issues. Residents can look forward to improved water availability as additional storage tanks have been constructed throughout the area.

Dalhousie:

Officials announced on Sunday that the Ahla tank, part of Dalhousie's eagerly anticipated drinking water initiative, has received water within the designated timeframe, and the system is currently undergoing testing.

During a press briefing at the Circuit House in Dalhousie, Rajesh Mongra, the Superintending Engineer of the Himachal Pradesh Jal Shakti Department, revealed that approximately ₹65 crore has been invested in this new water supply project. He noted that he inspected the project nearly 20 days ago, and as scheduled, water was delivered to the Ahla tank on January 1, which serves as the main reservoir for distributing water to Dalhousie.

“The testing phase has commenced and is anticipated to last two to three months. This duration is essential to guarantee a consistent and reliable water supply for residents,” Mongra explained. He added that during this testing period, the schedule for water distribution and the duration of supply for each ward in Dalhousie will be determined.

Mongra emphasized that the new scheme has greatly improved the town's water storage capabilities. “Previously, Dalhousie had a storage capacity of around 24 to 25 lakh litres. With the implementation of this new scheme, it has increased to nearly 70 lakh litres,” he stated, noting that this enhancement will effectively resolve the town's persistent water scarcity issues.

As part of the new initiative, several additional storage tanks have been constructed at various locations throughout the town, Mongra assured, indicating that residents of Dalhousie will no longer experience water shortages.
Also present at the press conference were Executive Engineer Davinder Rana, SDO Rajender Kumar, and Junior Engineer Shishupal.
