Dalhousie Commemorates Freedom Fighter Ajit Singh with Tribute Ceremony

In Dalhousie, a heartfelt tribute ceremony was held to honor Ajit Singh, a freedom fighter and uncle of Bhagat Singh. Organized by Kala evam Lekhak Manch, the event celebrated Singh's legacy and featured performances by local students. Special guest Navdeep Suri highlighted the importance of remembering sacrifices made for India's independence and the role of literature in shaping the nation. This annual event, now in its 26th year, continues to inspire the community.

Honoring a National Hero

In Dalhousie, the social group Kala evam Lekhak Manch held a poignant tribute ceremony at the Panchpula memorial dedicated to Ajit Singh, the uncle of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and a notable freedom fighter. This event celebrated the sacrifices made by Ajit Singh and other heroes who fought for India's independence.

Baldev Mohan Khosla, the General Secretary, recounted how Ajit Singh had visited Dalhousie for health reasons. He joyfully passed away on August 14, the day India gained independence, and his last rites took place in Dalhousie. For 26 years, this organization has commemorated his legacy annually on August 14, aiming to inspire the local community.

This year's ceremony also paid tribute to the late Nanak Singh, revered as the 'Father of Punjabi Literature,' whose patriotic works continue to motivate many. His grandson, former diplomat Navdeep Suri, was the chief guest and received a warm welcome from Dr. Captain G.S. Dhillon, the organization’s chief patron, and Chairman Ashok Mahajan.

The event included moving tributes at Ajit Singh’s memorial, performances of patriotic songs by students from Dalhousie Public School, and a special song dedicated to the town. General Secretary Baldev Khosla led the proceedings.

During the gathering, Chief Guest Navdeep Suri and Chairman Ashok Mahajan emphasized the significance of remembering the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the vital role literature plays in shaping the nation.

The ceremony saw attendance from various dignitaries, including SDM Dalhousie Anil Bhardwaj, Tehsildar Ramesh Chauhan, Municipal Council President Vandana Chaddha, former MC President Manoj Chaddha, and others from the community.
