Cyclonic Storm Alert: Low-Pressure System Brewing Over Bay of Bengal
Weather Update from Andhra Pradesh
Amaravati: A low-pressure system has developed over the east-central and southeastern regions of the Bay of Bengal, with expectations of evolving into a cyclonic storm.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority announced on Friday that this low-pressure area is anticipated to escalate into a depression by October 24, followed by a deep depression on October 25.
According to Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the State Disaster Management Authority, by the morning of October 26, it is expected to transform into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal.
In the following days, the storm is projected to head towards the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha, bringing widespread rainfall across Andhra Pradesh.
Residents and farmers are urged to take necessary precautions, while fishermen at sea are advised to return to shore immediately.
Additionally, due to a low-pressure system affecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala, scattered heavy rains are forecasted for the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh today.
Light to moderate rainfall, along with lightning in certain areas, is expected on October 24 and 25.
From October 26 onwards, widespread rainfall is anticipated throughout the state, with heavy downpours likely in isolated locations.
Coastal areas should prepare for strong gusty winds, reaching speeds of 60–70 km/h.
The India Meteorological Department reported that a low-pressure area formed today due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Southeast and adjoining East-Central Bay of Bengal.
This system is expected to remain in the same area and intensify into a depression by Saturday, moving west-northwest and further developing into a deep depression on October 25, eventually becoming a cyclonic storm over the West-Central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26.
The storm is likely to continue intensifying and move west-northwest towards the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha in the following days.
