CWI Implements Workload Management for Pace Bowlers Ahead of International Matches
CWI to Oversee Pace Bowlers' Workload
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a strategy to manage the workload of their pace bowlers: Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, and Alzarri Joseph, in light of an upcoming busy international cricket calendar.
According to the ICC, the West Indies will host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for two Test matches each as part of the ICC World Test Championship scheduled for mid-year.
Additionally, a five-match ODI series against New Zealand, along with tours to India and Bangladesh, are planned for later this year.
Individual Player Management Plans
CWI is adopting a careful approach regarding the workload of Seales, Shamar, and Alzarri. Both Seales and Shamar have been allowed to participate in select matches of the West Indies Championship.
In contrast, Alzarri will forgo domestic cricket to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Strategic Approach to Player Fitness
Miles Bascombe, the director of CWI, confirmed the decision to manage the pace bowlers' workloads to ensure they maintain peak performance and fitness for international competitions.
"Our fast bowlers are crucial to our success, and this season requires their best efforts across all formats and competitions," Bascombe stated, as reported by the ICC.
"The strategies we have implemented are intentional—we are being proactive and precise to ensure that Jayden, Shamar, and Alzarri are fit, available, and at their best when it matters most," he added.
Current WTC Standings
The West Indies currently sit at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship standings, having suffered seven losses and one draw in their matches.
Their last Test series was against New Zealand, where they lost 2-0 in a three-match series.
