New Delhi, June 8: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi have successfully intercepted a significant narcotics smuggling operation, recovering 15.38 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana hidden within two geysers, as reported on Monday.

Based on specific intelligence and passenger profiling, Customs agents stopped two individuals arriving from Kuala Lumpur on Flight D7-182 on Sunday. These passengers were halted after they passed through the Green Channel at the airport.

Upon close observation and examination, officials discovered that the passengers were transporting two brand-new geysers along with their checked luggage. Intense questioning and analysis of the suspects' mobile communications raised serious doubts about the contents of the geysers.

Subsequently, the geysers underwent an X-ray inspection, which revealed concealed items within their structure. Customs officers then dismantled the appliances, uncovering a sophisticated concealment method.

During the search, officials found 145 vacuum-sealed packets hidden inside the geysers. Initial analysis of the packets indicated they contained a green leafy substance believed to be hydroponic marijuana, commonly referred to as ganja.

The total weight of the narcotic substance seized was 15.38 kg, with Customs authorities estimating its illicit market value at around Rs 5.38 crore.

The narcotic substance has been confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. Both individuals have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended recipients of the shipment.

This seizure follows another drug bust at IGI Airport just days earlier.

On June 4, customs officials confiscated 1.57 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana valued at approximately Rs 55 lakh from a passenger arriving from Bangkok.

Authorities reported that this passenger arrived in Delhi on June 1 and was intercepted after passing through the Green Channel. An X-ray scan of their luggage revealed suspicious images, prompting a thorough search. Officials subsequently recovered three vacuum-sealed packets containing a green substance suspected to be hydroponic marijuana, thwarting another alleged narcotics smuggling attempt.
