Customs Officials Seize 8.77 kg of Marijuana at Delhi Airport
Significant Drug Seizure at Indira Gandhi International Airport
Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi have confiscated 8.77 kilograms of marijuana from two Indian travelers arriving from Bangkok. Both individuals have been taken into custody, as reported by authorities on Saturday.
According to a statement from the customs department, the travelers arrived at Terminal-3 on January 14 and were stopped based on suspicion. The statement noted, 'Upon their arrival at Terminal-3, they were diverted from the green channel for an X-ray examination and a thorough search of their personal belongings.'
During the inspection, officials discovered nine packets of a green substance, suspected to be marijuana, hidden inside a deep blue trolley bag. The total weight of the seized substance was 8.77 kilograms.
The customs department indicated, 'Preliminary tests on the seized substance suggest it is marijuana.' Authorities estimated the street value of the confiscated drugs to be approximately ₹8.771 crores in the international market.
The statement further mentioned that the drugs have been seized, and the accused travelers have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
