CRPF Enhances Security Protocols Following Ambush in Manipur
Strengthening Security Measures in Manipur
New Delhi, July 17: Following the ambush that resulted in the deaths of two Assam Rifles personnel in Ukhrul district, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has revised its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for its personnel stationed in the troubled state of Manipur.
A senior official from the security forces indicated that CRPF units have been directed to refrain from any unplanned movements as part of the heightened security protocols.
“Our company commanders have been instructed to halt any unplanned movements,” the official stated, emphasizing that the updated SOP is designed to reduce risks for security personnel in sensitive regions.
To bolster operational effectiveness, the CRPF has dispatched over 100 armored vehicles to Manipur for routine patrols and area control operations.
Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has sent two battalions of the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) to the state. All CoBRA personnel received specialized training in Silchar prior to their deployment for counter-insurgency missions in Manipur.
The official noted that more than 300 companies of Central Armed Police Forces are currently active in the state. This includes 21 companies from the Assam Rifles, 206 from the CRPF, 100 from the BSF, six from the SSB, and five from the ITBP, showcasing the government's ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order.
In related developments, government reports have disclosed that joint security forces have successfully recovered a substantial amount of arms and ammunition during recent operations in Manipur. The recovered items include 11 AK-series rifles, three M-series rifles, seven rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), mortars, and various other weapons, highlighting persistent efforts to combat militant activities and retrieve illegal arms in the conflict-affected area.
