Imphal, June 6: In light of the ongoing unrest in Manipur, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to discuss a detailed strategy aimed at combating insurgency and fostering long-term peace in the region.

During his three-day visit to the state, Singh assessed the current security landscape and the measures being implemented to uphold peace and stability.

The CRPF shared on social media that the discussions were centered around improving operational readiness, strategic planning, and the comprehensive approach to eradicate insurgency and restore peace in Manipur.

A statement from Raj Bhavan indicated that senior CRPF officials provided the Governor with insights into the existing law and order situation and the initiatives being taken to tackle emerging security threats throughout the state.

The talks also highlighted the need to enhance security measures to protect citizens' lives and properties, ensuring effective responses in areas at risk.

This meeting occurred shortly after an attack in the Kangpokpi district resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a woman, and the destruction of at least seven homes by assailants.

Security forces have ramped up search operations to locate those responsible for the attack in Loibol Khullen village, situated in the Saitu-Gamphazol subdivision.

Previously, the central government had strengthened the state's security framework by approving the deployment of two battalions from the CRPF's elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a unit specialized in guerrilla and jungle warfare.

These battalions are set to assist in ongoing counter-insurgency operations and area control, particularly in challenging terrains.

A senior security official noted, 'The two CoBRA battalions will conduct targeted operations against armed groups engaging in violence in Manipur,' as part of the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy in the conflict-affected state.

This high-level review is crucial as Manipur continues to experience sporadic violence despite the ongoing efforts by security forces to stabilize the situation.
