Criticism of Rahul Gandhi's Absence at All-Party Meeting on West Asia Conflict
BJP MP Questions Rahul Gandhi's Commitment
On March 25, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal expressed his discontent regarding Rahul Gandhi's absence from an all-party meeting focused on the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Pal raised concerns about Gandhi's irregular attendance in Parliament, questioning his suitability for the role of opposition leader. Speaking to the media, Pal noted that Prime Minister Modi convened the all-party meeting today, following statements made in the Rajya Sabha about the West Asia crisis the previous day, and another in the Lok Sabha just before that. Unfortunately, he remarked, Gandhi was not present for today's discussions.
Pal further emphasized that the public elected Gandhi as their representative, yet he shows little interest in parliamentary proceedings, often being absent. He pointed out that Gandhi frequently travels to places like Haryana and Kerala, raising doubts about his qualifications to lead the opposition. The conflict in West Asia has now entered its fourth week, disrupting trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions escalated following the assassination of Iran's 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during joint military strikes by the U.S. and Israel on February 28.
In retaliation, Iran targeted Israeli and American assets in several Gulf nations, further exacerbating disruptions in maritime routes and impacting international energy markets and global economic stability. Just a day prior, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a united effort from both central and state governments to address the challenges arising from the conflict in West Asia. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi urged for a collective voice to promote peace and dialogue, highlighting the crisis's implications for millions of Indians involved in trade, energy supply, and security in the Gulf region.
Describing the upcoming period as a significant test for the nation, he requested cooperation from state governments and urged them to ensure the timely implementation of the Prime Minister's Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. In his address to the upper house, he stated that this crisis would pose a major challenge for the country, and the collaboration of states would be crucial for success. Therefore, he appealed to all state governments through this house to take proactive measures to ensure that the benefits of the Prime Minister's Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana reach the most affected, including the poor, laborers, and migrants, in a timely manner.
