Critical Road Closure Causes Hardships for Commuters in Assam-Meghalaya Region
Severe Disruptions on Rani-Mairang-Patharkhama NEC Road
Palasbari, Dec 25: The Rani-Mairang-Patharkhama NEC road, situated on the outskirts of Guwahati, is a crucial route for residents living along the Assam-Meghalaya border. Unfortunately, commuters are currently experiencing significant difficulties due to the poor condition of a culvert on this key roadway, rendering it unsafe for heavy vehicles.
Consequently, all traffic on this route has been halted. The Public Works Department (PWD) has placed soil at both ends of the culvert to prevent access and avert accidents. Despite the road being closed for several days, no permanent repairs have been undertaken by the relevant authorities. Alarmingly, there has been no provision for an alternative route.
The extended closure has led to considerable inconvenience for daily travelers between Guwahati and Meghalaya, especially towards the Chandubi area. Passengers, merchants, and patients traveling between the two states are suffering due to this disruption.
Given the road's strategic significance as a major connectivity route, the lack of action from authorities has sparked frustration among local residents and users of the road. There is a strong demand for immediate action from the relevant authorities to repair the damaged culvert promptly, restore normal traffic flow, and establish a temporary alternative route to alleviate public distress.
