Cristiano Ronaldo's New Role at UD Almería Sparks Speculation of Future Play
Ronaldo's Ownership and Potential Playing Future
Cristiano Ronaldo's recent acquisition of a minority stake in UD Almería has ignited discussions about the possibility of the renowned Portuguese player taking to the field for the Spanish Segunda Division team. Head coach Rubi has openly stated that Ronaldo would be warmly welcomed should he decide to play.
On February 26, Almería announced that Ronaldo, through his CR7 Sports Investment company, now holds a 25% ownership interest in the club. The Al-Nassr forward, who celebrated his 41st birthday earlier this month, has long shown interest in owning a football team post-retirement. Rubi expressed that it would be 'extraordinary and wonderful' if Ronaldo chose to play for Almería before retiring.
Rubi's Thoughts on Ronaldo's Potential Involvement
When asked about the chance of Ronaldo joining the team, Rubi remarked, 'That’s a question for him, but it would be extraordinary and wonderful. This is his club, and if he wants to continue playing, regardless of who the coach would be, he’d be welcomed with open arms. I have no doubt about that.'
Currently, Almería is vying for promotion to La Liga, positioned third in the Segunda Division standings with 27 matches played, just two points shy of leaders Racing Santander. Ronaldo's involvement, even at this stage of his career, would undoubtedly draw global attention to the club's efforts.
Ronaldo has signed a two-year contract extension with Al-Nassr, which will keep him in Saudi Arabia past his 42nd birthday. While the possibility of him making a surprising move to Almería remains uncertain, Rubi assures that the door is open.
Rubi further expressed enthusiasm about Ronaldo's role as a shareholder, stating, 'From our perspective, we’re very happy. Of course, we welcome him. I think it’s great news because someone like him, with his extensive knowledge of sport and football, can really help a club like ours.'
He also highlighted the significance of Ronaldo's involvement for the local community, saying, 'It’s very exciting for the whole club, the city, and the province. Everyone knows the good relationship Cristiano has with the owners. The important thing is that he’s arrived here to join us [as a shareholder]. We’re very happy.'
Ronaldo's investment in Almería follows his recent $7.5 million acquisition of a 10% stake in Pro2col Software through Herbalife, further diversifying his business interests.
