Devprayag, June 2: A serious road mishap occurred in the Devprayag area of Uttarakhand on Tuesday when a vehicle carrying eight individuals fell approximately 200 meters into a gorge near Ganga Hotel Darshan. The incident caused widespread panic and prompted swift action from rescue teams.

Upon receiving news of the accident, emergency response teams from the police, Revenue Department, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) quickly arrived at the scene to initiate a thorough search and rescue operation.

Initial reports indicate that the vehicle, registered as UK 08 TA 5433, was en route to Haridwar when it lost control and plunged into the gorge. All individuals in the vehicle, including the driver, are believed to be from Rajasthan.

Rescue efforts led to one injured person being retrieved from the site and transported to Srinagar for medical care via a departmental ambulance. Teams are actively working to locate and rescue the remaining passengers.

Authorities have confirmed the recovery of three bodies, which are being brought to the roadside with assistance from rafting teams due to the challenging terrain and the depth of the gorge. The rescue operation is proving to be difficult as the vehicle fell into a highly inaccessible area.

SDRF teams from Srinagar, Vyasi, and Dhalwala were dispatched immediately following the incident. A six-member team from the Vyasi unit was the first to arrive and commenced rescue operations promptly.

Local police from Devprayag and revenue officials, including the area Patwari, are also on-site to aid in the rescue efforts.

Officials stated that a comprehensive assessment of the accident is ongoing, and further details regarding the condition of all passengers are awaited. Rescue teams are working diligently to locate any missing individuals and recover the vehicle.

The administration has confirmed that all necessary resources are being utilized to accelerate the rescue mission, with more information expected once the operation concludes.

This incident follows another tragic road accident in Uttarakhand just days prior.

On May 30, three individuals lost their lives, and five others were injured when a car skidded off the Pali Link Road in Rudraprayag district and fell into a gorge. SDRF teams had to conduct a challenging rescue operation to evacuate the injured and recover the deceased.
