Golaghat, April 17: A heartbreaking incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the 2 No. Tarani area of Merapani, Assam, where two young boys tragically drowned in a pond while playing.

The victims have been identified as Bidwanjyoti Chutia, aged 6, and Nomom Gogoi, aged 5.

Reports indicate that Nomom Gogoi had just arrived from Kachmari to visit his grandfather's home with his mother earlier that day.

During the time of the accident, family members were busy with household chores, and the two boys, who are relatives, were playing nearby when they are believed to have accidentally fallen into the pond.

When the children were noticed missing, their family began searching for them and eventually discovered their bodies floating in the water.

They were quickly taken to the Merapani Community Health Centre, but unfortunately, the doctors pronounced both boys dead upon arrival.

“The two boys were playing, and we didn’t realize when they fell into the pond. They are from the same family; one is my elder brother’s son, and the other is my sister-in-law’s son,” shared a family member.

She further explained, “My sister-in-law had brought her child around 10 in the morning. He was only five years old. We first noticed their slippers floating, and when we searched underwater, we found their bodies.”

Additionally, the family member mentioned, “All family members have gathered at the hospital.”
