Ahmedabad, June 18: A 17-year-old student preparing for the NEET examination tragically lost his life after falling from the sixth floor of a residential building in the New Ranip area of Ahmedabad. This incident occurred just three days prior to the nationwide NEET-UG retest scheduled for June 21.

As reported by the Sabarmati Police, the young aspirant fell from the balcony of a flat located in Aristo Anandam Apartments. Authorities were alerted to the situation around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday and promptly initiated an investigation.

An accidental death case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, pending further investigation. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

According to Police Inspector Yuvrajsinh Vaghela, the incident took place during the night hours. "The fall occurred between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., and we received the report around 4:30 a.m. Currently, no suicide note has been found, and we cannot confirm if the student was experiencing stress. The investigation is ongoing," he stated.

Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death and are interviewing family members, friends, and acquaintances of the student. No definitive conclusions have been made regarding the cause of the incident.

This tragic event comes just days before the rescheduled National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), a significant examination for aspiring medical students in India. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the retest after the original NEET-UG 2026 exam, held on May 3, was canceled due to allegations of a paper leak and other irregularities.

The Central government approved the re-examination following concerns about the integrity of the testing process, affecting over 22 lakh candidates and causing widespread anxiety among students and their families.

The NTA has implemented additional security measures for the upcoming retest, and the Supreme Court has been informed of enhanced safeguards to maintain the examination's integrity.

In preparation for the June 21 examination, authorities have ramped up efforts, with the Indian Air Force assisting in the transportation of question papers nationwide. The NTA has also initiated training programs for examination staff and issued warnings to students regarding misinformation and fake paper leak claims circulating online.

As of now, police have not established any connection between the student's death and the examination, and the investigation into the incident continues.
