Gondia (Maharashtra), Sep 8: A devastating head-on crash involving a speeding truck and a pickup truck resulted in the deaths of six individuals in Maharashtra's Gondia district, with seven others injured, as reported by officials on Tuesday.

The unfortunate event occurred late Monday night in the Nagra region along the Gondia-Balaghat route.

Officials noted that the pickup truck was severely damaged due to the collision's force. Six passengers in the vehicle lost their lives instantly, while seven others suffered serious injuries.

The deceased have been named as Aarush Matre, Kiran Santosh Vaidya, Santosh Matre, Sushila Matre, Rupsen Satyakar, and Jyoti Satyakar. The injured individuals include Bhumeshwar Matre, Sangeeta Matre, Rajendra Panchale, Lakshmi Panchale, Santosh Vaidya, Rakesh Bahe, and the pickup driver, Sandeep Bahe.

All victims were laborers hailing from Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh, traveling to Hyderabad for work-related purposes.

Upon learning of the accident, local residents and rural police quickly arrived at the scene to commence rescue efforts. The injured, who were trapped inside the vehicle, were freed and transported to a government hospital in Gondia, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

The police have filed a case against the truck driver and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

A similar incident occurred in July, where three individuals, including two women, lost their lives, and two others were critically injured when a car collided with a stationary dumper on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Ratnagiri district.

Officials indicated that the victims were a family from Agripada in Mumbai, returning from a trip to Goa. The accident transpired when their vehicle struck a stationary dumper near the Lanja Rest House on the Mumbai-Goa Highway.

The collision was so severe that the car was left unrecognizable. Local residents and passing drivers rushed to help those trapped inside the wreckage.

The police were alerted promptly, and a team arrived to carry out rescue and relief operations.
