A tragic bridge collapse in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, has led to the deaths of six laborers and left three others injured. The incident occurred early Friday morning when a section of the bridge fell during a storm. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow and has promised financial assistance to the victims' families. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to ensure no additional workers are trapped under the debris. This incident raises concerns about safety measures at construction sites, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Hamirpur (UP), May 29: A devastating incident occurred early Friday when a section of an under-construction bridge collapsed due to a storm over the Betwa river in Hamirpur district, resulting in the deaths of six workers and injuries to three others.

The victims have been identified as Lokendra (22), Kuldeep Nishad (19), Sawant Yadav (28), Sabhajeet (30), Pushpendra Chauhan (34), and Rajesh Pal (42), according to police reports.

Three workers were trapped beneath a pillar but were later rescued. The injured individuals have been taken to the district hospital for treatment.

In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive adequate medical care.

Describing the loss of life as "extremely heartbreaking," Adityanath shared on X that he had directed the district administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts.

Government officials reported that the chief minister has also promised financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.

The collapse occurred around 3 am between the villages of Parsani and Kandaur, while several workers were resting on the upper slab when it unexpectedly gave way, as per official statements.

Hamirpur District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal informed the media that the bridge was being constructed by a private firm, with the project ongoing for two years.

He assured that all necessary safety measures for the workers had been implemented at the site.

Goyal noted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local authorities had issued warnings the previous evening about severe winds, storms, and rainfall.

Efforts were made to alert residents and workers in the area about the impending adverse weather conditions.

Rajesh Kumar Saroj, the Station House Officer of Lalpura police station, confirmed that the bodies have been sent for postmortem, and debris removal operations are in progress to ensure no additional workers are trapped beneath the wreckage.
