Suspicious Death of Newlywed Woman in Jharkhand Sparks Outrage

Tragic Incident in Medininagar

Medininagar (Jharkhand), Sep 9: A newly married woman was discovered dead under questionable circumstances in Palamu district, Jharkhand. Her family has accused her in-laws of murder, alleging they attempted to disguise it as suicide.

The victim, identified as Vaishnavi Devi, was found hanging in her matrimonial home near Redma Chowk in Medininagar late Tuesday night, within the jurisdiction of the Town police station.

Originally from Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, Vaishnavi had wed Suraj Gupta from Medininagar approximately ten months prior. Her family claims she faced harassment related to dowry demands shortly after the wedding.

The situation came to light on Wednesday when her in-laws brought her to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in critical condition, but medical staff pronounced her dead upon arrival.

Following her death, her family alleges that her in-laws attempted to discreetly remove her body from the hospital. However, vigilant personnel at the MMCH police outpost intervened, notifying Vaishnavi's family about the incident.

Relatives from Sonbhadra arrived in Medininagar on Wednesday, voicing serious accusations against the in-laws.

Jitendra, Vaishnavi's maternal uncle, stated that she had been persistently harassed for dowry since her marriage.

He mentioned that Vaishnavi had a normal conversation with her mother around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, without indicating any distress or conflict. Just hours later, the family received news of her death, raising significant doubts about the circumstances.

The police have taken possession of the body for a post-mortem examination, and officials confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway, based on the family's statements and allegations.
