Itanagar, July 19: Recent reports indicate that East Siang and Kamle districts in Arunachal Pradesh are experiencing new floods and landslides, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall for Sunday in various regions of the state, according to officials.

The State Disaster Management Department's evening report on Saturday highlighted that both East Siang and Kamle faced fresh rain-induced floods and landslides over the previous 24 hours.

In the Lower Dibang Valley district, some workers became stranded at Diphu Nallah in the Koronu Circle on Saturday due to rising water levels. Rescue teams from the district police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) attempted to assist but had to halt operations due to strong currents. They plan to resume the rescue efforts on Sunday, as per the report.

So far, the ongoing floods and landslides have resulted in seven fatalities, left 29 individuals injured, and impacted 149,257 others across the state, officials reported.

A total of 26 districts, 328 circles, and 576 villages have been affected by the severe monsoon conditions, they added.

In East Siang district, flash floods have impacted five circles and 25 villages in the last day, while Kamle has seen floods and landslides affecting Raga and Dollungmukh circles, impacting five villages, according to the report.

Upper Siang is currently the most severely affected district, with 49,523 individuals impacted, followed by East Siang (35,500), Siang (25,365), Kra Daadi (13,731), Upper Subansiri (9,550), East Kameng (6,786), Namsai (2,657), and Anjaw (1,011), as stated in the report.

Approximately 806 homes have been damaged throughout the state due to the ongoing monsoon deluge, officials noted.

The total agricultural and horticultural loss has reached 733.36 hectares, which includes 312.86 hectares of agricultural land and 420.5 hectares of horticultural plantations, they reported.

Infrastructure damage has also been significant, with 192 roads, 32 bridges, 30 culverts, 265 water supply facilities, 156 power lines, and 224 electric poles affected.

Government buildings, schools, hostels, hospitals, retaining walls, flood protection structures, drainage systems, and other public assets have also sustained damage, the report added.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, in isolated areas across Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.

An alert has been issued for Papum Pare and East Kameng districts, where very heavy rainfall of 12-20 cm is anticipated in certain areas, while Anjaw is expected to receive heavy rainfall of 6-11 cm.

The weather office has cautioned that the ongoing rain could lead to localized flooding, waterlogging, landslides, traffic disruptions, and damage to vulnerable infrastructure.
