Kolkata, April 13: A young man's body, riddled with bullets, was discovered in a locked apartment in Narendrapur, located on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, on Monday morning. Authorities have apprehended the victim's alleged girlfriend along with another individual.

Police found a firearm and ammunition next to the deceased, identified as Arup Mandal.

Investigations are underway, focusing on the possibility that the murder stemmed from a personal dispute. The police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding Arup Mandal's death.

According to law enforcement, the 37-year-old was found dead with two guns and six bullets located in the flat.

Authorities are probing the timeline and motives behind the shooting, as well as identifying the perpetrator.

The victim's family reported receiving news of his death late Sunday night.

Shankar Naskar, Arup's maternal uncle, stated that a friend informed him of the tragic news. Upon visiting the flat, they discovered Arup's body in a pool of blood.

Arup reportedly resided in Narendrapur for work purposes, and his family was unaware of any romantic involvement.

However, some relatives recognized a young man named Raju, who was known as Arup's friend, and he has since been taken into custody.

Additionally, a woman named Priyanka Das has also been arrested. Initial investigations suggest that the murder may have been linked to a romantic dispute, as Arup was reportedly close to Priyanka.

A police spokesperson noted that there were visible injuries on the victim's head. Both Raju and Priyanka are in custody, and the body has been sent for an autopsy as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, the shooting incident has raised concerns in the area, particularly in the context of the upcoming Assembly elections.
