Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell Seizes Mephedrone Worth Over Rs 2 Crore

In a significant operation, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in Mumbai arrested two individuals and seized 681 grams of mephedrone valued at over Rs 2 crore. The arrests occurred during a patrol in Chembur, where one suspect was found with 333 grams and the other with 348 grams of the drug. This incident is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, following previous busts that uncovered larger quantities of narcotics. Investigations are continuing as authorities work to dismantle drug networks operating in the area.

Mumbai, August 5: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has successfully apprehended two individuals and confiscated 681 grams of mephedrone (MD), valued at approximately Rs 2.04 crore, in Mumbai.

The arrests occurred during a routine patrol at around 10:30 p.m. on August 4, near MHADA Colony Road in Chembur. One suspect, aged 33, was caught with 333 grams of mephedrone, while the other, aged 38, had 348 grams in his possession.

A case has been filed under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. The formal arrests took place on August 5.

Authorities reported that the total amount of drugs seized was 681 grams, with an estimated market value of Rs 2,04,30,000.

In accordance with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), a spot panchnama was conducted with videography, and further investigations are ongoing.

Previously, on July 16, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Navi Mumbai's Crime Branch dismantled an international drug cartel, arresting six individuals across various locations in the state. They seized approximately 1,307 grams of hydro ganja and 5 grams of cocaine, collectively worth Rs 1.4 crore.

On May 26, the ANC of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested three suspects following a raid on a residential flat in Agripada, where they discovered mephedrone and raw materials valued at over Rs 50 crore, along with a country-made pistol and 19 live cartridges.

The raid was executed at Yasmeen Tower, a high-rise in Agripada, South Mumbai, based on intelligence gathered by the Kandivli unit of the ANC. The police set a trap and searched flat number 1004 on the 10th floor, uncovering a mephedrone manufacturing setup.
