Jorhat, August 20: Authorities in Jorhat have apprehended another individual linked to the tragic death of 18-year-old Anwesha Saikia at Gauri Apartments in Daho Bora Chuk. This development coincides with a forensic team from Guwahati beginning their evidence collection at the scene on Thursday.

During a nighttime operation in Milan Nagar, Jorhat Sadar Police detained Ankit Das, who had reportedly been evading capture since Saikia's demise. He is currently undergoing interrogation by law enforcement officials.

An official indicated that Das would be transported to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for a medical assessment.

The arrest occurred as the forensic team arrived to investigate the apartment where Saikia allegedly collapsed on the evening of August 15.

Accompanied by local police, the forensic team meticulously examined the premises and gathered samples, including fingerprints and other potential evidence to aid the investigation.

According to police reports, Saikia was reportedly at a gathering with the main suspect, Aryan Goswami, Das, and two other women.

Goswami has asserted that Saikia succumbed to a drug overdose. However, the investigation into the circumstances of her death is ongoing, with authorities awaiting forensic and autopsy results.

Earlier, the two women who were arrested had allegedly implicated Das in supplying drugs to Saikia. Police are actively looking into these claims.

With the arrest of Das, the total number of individuals detained in connection with this case has risen to four.
