New Delhi, Oct 3: In a harrowing account, flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar recounted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi the terrifying moments he faced after being attacked by his co-pilot during a flight. Despite the life-threatening situation, he remained resolute in his mission to protect the passengers on board.

Currently receiving medical care in the UAE, Machchhar detailed his experience during a phone call with Modi, explaining how he managed to regain control of the aircraft after the assault.

While flying on flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Machchhar was stabbed by his co-pilot in the cockpit. During the video call, Modi praised the pilot for his courage, quick thinking, and calm demeanor, emphasizing that his swift actions were crucial in saving numerous lives.

“I was on the cockpit floor, injured. With the little strength I had left, I acted decisively to save the plane,” Machchhar shared.

“I was fighting for my life, but I was determined to ensure others survived. It was a pivotal moment. I realized that if I didn’t act, the aircraft was going down,” he explained.

Despite suffering multiple injuries from repeated blows, Machchhar motivated himself to rise and respond. “I have been flying for 17 years and a Captain for 11. I knew what was happening even with my eyes closed. Lying there, I understood that if I could just make one last effort – the door was right there. Even while enduring the attack, I could open the door,” he recounted.

Once the cockpit door was opened, others rushed in to assist, each playing a vital role. “I was driven by survival instinct, yet I knew I couldn’t let them perish,” he stated.

Machchhar also revealed that he recites the Hanuman Chalisa, a hymn dedicated to Lord Hanuman, during tough times. “Whenever I experience pain, I recite the Hanuman Chalisa. Even in that moment, I was reciting it, and I believe that God saved me,” he concluded.
