Former Railway Employee Sentenced to Five Years for Bribery in Rajasthan

Bribery Case Leads to Imprisonment

Jaipur, April 7: A special court in Jaipur has sentenced Jalandhar Yogi, a former employee of the Western Central Railway, to five years of rigorous imprisonment due to his involvement in a bribery case, as reported by officials on Tuesday.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Yogi after finding him guilty of soliciting and accepting illegal payments from a complainant in return for processing a pending bill.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated the case on June 16, 2020, following claims that Yogi demanded a bribe of Rs 11,500 to expedite the clearance of a final bill related to work done by the complainant.

After confirming the allegations, the CBI set up a sting operation and caught Yogi in the act of accepting Rs 10,000 as a bribe. The money was seized from him during the arrest, according to officials.

At the time of the offense, Yogi held the position of Chief Office Superintendent (CoS) in the office of the Assistant Engineer (AEN) for the Western Central Railways in Gangapur City, Sawai Madhopur.

Following a thorough investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet against him on January 8, 2021, citing relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

This conviction underscores the agency's ongoing commitment to combat corruption within public sectors and to hold government officials accountable.

In a related operation, the CBI recently arrested another railway official in Jharkhand for a bribery case. Himanshu Shekhar, who served as Chief Commercial Inspector (CCI) of South Eastern Railway in Ranchi, was taken into custody.

The CBI has reaffirmed its dedication to taking stringent measures against individuals engaged in corrupt activities, especially those exploiting their official roles for personal benefit.
