The CBI Impersonation Incident

In a shocking incident in Delhi, a 22-year-old woman, along with two accomplices, posed as CBI officers to execute a robbery worth lakhs. Here’s a detailed account of the event.

Israt Jameeli, a resident of Wazirabad, is a catering professional and holds an M.Phil degree from Delhi University. Previously, he managed a food contract for the railways. One evening at around 7:30 PM, while he was at home with his family, there was a knock at the door. Upon opening it, he found three individuals—one woman and two men—standing there.

All three were dressed in white shirts and black pants, wearing masks. They claimed to be CBI officials from the Okhla division, stating that there was an FIR and a search warrant against Israt. When he requested to see their documents, they began to verbally abuse him. One of them identified himself as Suni Dubey and ordered Israt's wife and three children to stand in a corner of the house while the other two searched for 'evidence'. During the search, they broke into an old steel cupboard and stole gold and silver jewelry belonging to Israt's wife, along with ₹3 lakh in cash.

Fake Signatures and the Theft
Israt asked for a receipt for the stolen jewelry and inquired about the process to retrieve it. The trio signed fake names in his daughter's notebook, claiming they were taking the items as evidence, and then fled the scene. Israt felt something was amiss—why were the CBI officers wearing masks? Why didn’t they have any identification or a copy of the FIR? Suspicious, he immediately contacted the police.

The police raided the homes of Shaina and Keshav but found them absent. Tracking their phone locations revealed they were frequently moving around in Uttarakhand. On Friday evening, police apprehended Keshav and Shaina in Mussoorie, while their accomplice Vivek Singh was arrested in Haridwar. According to police, Shaina confessed to the crime, revealing that Israt was a distant relative. She had learned from family gossip that Israt kept cash at home and devised the robbery plan, involving her friend Keshav, who runs a food supplement store in Haridwar. Keshav then brought in Vivek, a student at Delhi University's School of Open Learning.

Inspiration from Bollywood
The police reported that Shaina got the idea for the robbery from the Bollywood film 'Raid', where a fake CBI raid is conducted to steal valuables. However, thanks to the police's swift action and CCTV footage, the trio was quickly apprehended.

Following Israt's complaint, an FIR was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 307 (preparation for robbery with violence), 318 (cheating), 319 (deceiving by concealing identity), and 334 (dishonestly breaking open a lock to commit theft). Under the supervision of SHO Manoj Verma, a police team reviewed 200 CCTV footages from the area. One footage showed a person riding a bike, which was registered in Shaina's name, and the rider was identified as Keshav Prasad, a resident of Shanti Nagar.
