Bihar Police Conducts Raids on Engineer Over Disproportionate Assets

The Economic Offences Unit of Bihar Police has launched a series of raids on properties linked to Gopal Kumar, an Executive Engineer, as part of an investigation into disproportionate assets. Allegations suggest that Kumar has amassed assets worth over Rs 2 crore beyond his known income sources. The raids, which are ongoing, have already resulted in the recovery of Rs 40 lakh in cash. The EOU is focusing on examining various financial documents and real estate holdings as part of their investigation into potential financial misconduct. Patna, May 16: On Saturday, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police executed raids at four different locations associated with Gopal Kumar, an Executive Engineer in the Rural Works Division located in Jhajha, Jamui. This action is part of an investigation into a case concerning disproportionate assets.


As per an official announcement from the Bihar Police Headquarters, the EOU registered Case No. 08/26 on May 15 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Preliminary investigations revealed that Gopal Kumar allegedly amassed assets totaling Rs 2,00,61,000, which exceeds his known income sources.


After the case registration, the EOU secured search warrants from the Special Vigilance Court in Patna. Teams led by officers of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank conducted simultaneous searches at four locations linked to the engineer.


The searches took place at his apartment in Jagat Pila Apartment, Manjister Colony, Jyotipuram, Patna; his home in East Indira Nagar, Road No. 4, Kankarbagh, Patna; a rented place near KKM College in Jamui; and his office in Jhajha, Jamui.


During these operations, investigators have recovered cash amounting to Rs 40 lakh so far.


The EOU has indicated that the search operation is ongoing, and comprehensive details regarding the seizures and findings will be disclosed once the raids conclude.


According to the EOU, the assets in question are estimated to be around 81.5 percent disproportionate to Kumar's known income sources. Following the initial investigation, a search warrant was obtained from the Special Vigilance Court in Patna, leading to the coordinated raids that began on Saturday morning.


Officials reported that prompt legal measures were taken after preliminary findings suggested significant financial misconduct. Investigators are meticulously reviewing real estate holdings, investments, banking transactions, and various financial documents during the searches.


The Economic Offences Unit continues its investigation, with officials stating that more information will be provided once the search operations are finalized.
