Guwahati, Nov 2: Assam Police have apprehended six individuals, including one woman, for allegedly running a sophisticated cyber fraud scheme utilizing mule bank accounts, which are believed to have connections with Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs).

The suspects have been named as Mofijul Haque (22), Himangshu Das (19), Marjina Begum, Rakib Hussain (34), Iftar Hussain (25), and Arman Azuz Hoque (20).

Following intelligence reports from central agencies, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police initiated an operation on October 28, leading to the arrests of these individuals across various locations in Guwahati over the next few days.

According to an official statement from the STF, the operation was launched in response to intelligence regarding cyber fraud involving mule bank accounts and potential links to PIOs.

Assam Police revealed that the STF registered a case based on a complaint from the Sonitpur District Police.

Initial investigations indicated that an account at SBI, owned by Marjina Begum, had received substantial deposits totaling lakhs of rupees within a mere 47 days, from June 22 to August 5, 2026. The funds were withdrawn almost immediately after being deposited, suggesting a dubious pattern.

Further inquiries pointed to Mofijul Haque and Himangshu Das, both from Guwahati, as being involved in questionable transactions linked to the account, which is suspected to be connected to a PIO.

On October 28, the STF arrested three suspects, including Begum, and seized mobile devices and incriminating documents from them.

During questioning, Mofijul Haque and Himangshu Das provided names of additional individuals tied to the fraud operation.

Following these leads, the STF arrested three more individuals: Rakib Hussain on October 29, and Iftar Hussain and Arman Azuz Hoque on October 30.
