The cricket community is in sorrow following the death of Rinku Singh's father. Rajeev Shukla, the Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), shared his condolences, calling the news profoundly heartbreaking. In a statement, Shukla remarked, "Hearing about Rinku Singh's father's demise is truly heartbreaking. He had been unwell for a year and faced numerous struggles in his life. Rinku is understandably very distressed. This is a tragic loss, and I extend my tributes to him."


Details of the Passing

Rinku Singh's father passed away on Friday morning at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, as confirmed by the hospital's Public Relations Officer. He had been fighting stage-four cancer and was receiving treatment at the facility but unfortunately succumbed to his illness.


Rinku's Quick Return from the T20 World Cup

Following his father's deteriorating health after India's initial Super 8 match against South Africa, Rinku had to return home from the T20 World Cup squad to support his family. After a brief visit, he quickly traveled back to Chennai to rejoin the Indian team ahead of their match against Zimbabwe on Thursday.


Rinku's Role in the Zimbabwe Match

Despite his return, Rinku was not included in the playing eleven for the match against Zimbabwe, as the team chose to field Sanju Samson alongside Abhishek Sharma, leaving Rinku out of the lineup.


Rinku's Performance in the World Cup

Rinku's performance in the World Cup has been inconsistent, often coming to bat with limited balls remaining. He has accumulated only 24 runs across five innings, remaining unbeaten in two of those, with a highest score of 11*. In 10 T20 International matches this year, he has scored 115 runs in eight innings, averaging 28.75, with a strike rate of 132.18 and a top score of 44*.

The Indian team is set to head to Kolkata for their final Super 8 match against the West Indies on Sunday. The winner of this match will advance to the semi-finals alongside South Africa from Group 1.
