Incident at Temple Inauguration

A police constable on duty was assaulted by the cousin of BC Janardhan Reddy, a minister from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), during a temple inauguration event in Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh. The incident, which took place at the newly opened Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Kolimigundla Mandal, has since gone viral on social media.

The incident unfolded when Sub Inspector Jaswanth Kumar intervened to prevent Bobbala Madana Bhupal Reddy, the minister's cousin, from entering a restricted area. Reports indicate that Reddy verbally abused and slapped the constable in front of onlookers.

Following the altercation, the Kolimigundla police initiated legal proceedings against Reddy under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those pertaining to obstructing a public servant and assaulting an officer on duty. Reddy was apprehended the following morning.

Minister BC Janardhan Reddy, who was present during the incident, expressed his disapproval, stating, "I strongly condemn the assault on the AR constable. Upon learning of the incident, I directed senior police officials to file an FIR and pursue legal action against those involved. Such behavior has no place in public life, and individuals in positions of authority must act responsibly."

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) criticized the event, labeling it indicative of the increasing impunity among those in power. In a statement on social media, they remarked, "This disgraceful act highlights the growing lawlessness among those close to power, where even law enforcement is not safe. The government's silence on this matter raises serious questions about the rule of law in Andhra Pradesh."
