In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a criminal case was filed against independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, commonly known as Pappu Yadav, on August 4. The local court has mandated his appearance on August 11. The complaint was lodged by Sushil Kumar Mishra, an advocate at the Allahabad High Court and co-convener of the BJP's legal department, regarding an incident where Yadav allegedly staged a drama in the attire of saints to highlight a supposed embezzlement of donations related to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Mishra claimed that during a protest in the Parliament complex concerning alleged irregularities in donations for the temple, Yadav donned the garb of saints and performed a symbolic act that depicted the theft of donations. He asserted that this portrayal hurt the religious sentiments of the Sanatan Dharma, saints, priests, and the Hindu community.

The complaint further alleged that the use of religious symbols and traditional attire of saints for political demonstrations was inappropriate. Mishra characterized the act as a fabricated performance, warning that such displays could incite religious discord and tension within society.

He argued that the performance, based on the alleged misappropriation of funds intended for the Ayodhya temple, demeaned the image of saints and temple priests. Mishra requested the court to summon Pappu Yadav and take legal action based on the evidence presented.

Following the hearing, the court instructed the MP to appear on August 11. This case is linked to a protest where opposition MPs staged a symbolic 'drama' in the Parliament complex regarding alleged irregularities in donations for the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Reports indicate that during this event, Yadav, dressed in saffron robes, impersonated a temple priest and attempted to illustrate the alleged theft of donations by pocketing money when several leaders approached the donation box.
