A court in Saharanpur has ordered the demolition of an illegal mosque situated within a high-security zone, following a complaint from a local activist. The ruling includes a substantial fine for the misuse of government property. The mosque was reportedly used for both religious and commercial purposes, raising concerns about its legality. The complainant, Vikas Tyagi, had previously alerted state authorities, leading to an investigation that confirmed the allegations. The court's decision emphasizes the need for strict adherence to regulations regarding government land use.

Court Ruling on Illegal Mosque

In a significant ruling, the court presided over by City Magistrate Kuldeep Singh has mandated the immediate demolition of an unauthorized mosque located within the district magistrate's office premises in Saharanpur. This decision follows a complaint lodged by former regional coordinator of Bajrang Dal, Vikas Tyagi, who alleged that the mosque was constructed illegally in a high-security zone designated for sensitive administrative functions.

Additionally, the court imposed a hefty fine of approximately ₹6.41 crores on the individual responsible for the illegal occupation and misuse of government land. Tyagi's complaint highlighted that the site was not only being used for religious purposes but also for commercial activities, including the operation of a post office and the rental of several rooms to outsiders, with the mosque committee collecting the rent.

Tyagi stated that he had raised this issue with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in January 2025, leading to an investigation that confirmed the allegations. Following this, the administration took action, resulting in the court's order for demolition. Tyagi has urged the authorities to increase the fine to around ₹10-12 crores and to act promptly on the court's directive to demolish the mosque.
