Corruption Scandal Leads to Broken Engagement for UP Police Officer
Corruption Incident in Meerut
In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a police officer's involvement in bribery has drastically altered his life. Constable Chhatrapal Singh, who was assigned to the Pallavpuram police station and is part of the 2023 batch, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption team. This incident has had a significant impact on his personal life, particularly as he was set to marry the niece of a state cabinet minister on May 5, a wedding that has now been called off.
Preparations for the wedding were in full swing at Chhatrapal's home, but fate had other plans. He allegedly demanded a bribe to remove the name of a woman, Seema, from an NDPS case. Reports indicate that he had previously accepted ₹1 lakh for the same purpose but failed to act. He then requested an additional ₹50,000, ultimately settling for ₹10,000.
Anti-Corruption Team's Operation and Arrest
Following a complaint from the victim, the Anti-Corruption team in Meerut set a trap. As soon as Chhatrapal accepted the ₹10,000 bribe, he was apprehended on the spot. The news of his arrest sent shockwaves through the police department.
Minister's Family Cancels Engagement
Upon learning about the officer's actions and subsequent arrest, the minister's family swiftly decided to cancel the wedding. What was supposed to be a joyous occasion on May 5 has now turned into a scene of mourning. After being informed of the broken engagement while behind bars, Chhatrapal was seen weeping and expressing regret for his actions, but it was too late.
